I just want to let you know that it’s gonna be quiet around here for a while. Not because I have nothing to say or share. I just don’t have time to craft the posts and there are a number of that I’m currently focusing on that is taking my attention.
First is time with my family amidst all these projects, hence the pic above.
Kids Camp 2012 is about to start in just over a week. Right after that week is our annual Wisconsin District Conference and it’s being hosted at our church this year. Then Youth Camp kicks off the last week of June. As soon as that camp is over I attend a wedding, then head out for a week of vacation, then step right back in to our week of VBS 2012.
These 4 major activities are typical for my summer.
What’s really got my undivided attention…
…is that we are restructuring how we run, train, and program ALL of our ministries in children and youth @ Hayward Wesleyan. So I’ve been reading, consulting, and writing expectations and policy for the coming ministry year.
Closely related to the restructuring is our emphasis on family discipleship for the coming ministry year. I’ve been reading, researching, and talking with many families in our church about this need and a comprehensive plan as well as a clearing house for resources.
I’m also working on consolidating our web properties at Hayward Wesleyan by the Fall. We want to bring our www.hwcyouth.org domain in line with our www.haywardwesleyan.org domain, and create a CMS around a blog format for the ability to share permalinks on social media as well as pattern our practices around how things work around our office to make things flow better.
Lots of things going on, eh? Yep. And I’m not sharing everything I’m involved in!!
Last thing on the docket: I’ve been granted a sabbatical for either Jan/Feb 2013 or Feb/Mar 2013. This means that I will be stepping out of ministry for about 2 solid months. I will disengage for 2 months! There is a lot of planning that needs to take place for this to happen as well as be successful.
All to say, that while all these things I am involved in doesn’t mean I won’t be posting on this blog at all. It just means that my posts and sharing of resources will be drastically limited because of all the other initiatives I am involved in.
Don’t worry, I won’t forget about this place!
Hey man, glad to hear that much is afoot including you resting! You probably already have something in mind for your CMS, but if you don’t, check out Drupal. We hired MustardSeedMedia (mustardseedmedia.com) to redo our website last year, and we couldn’t be happier.
Thanks, Hutch. I’ve learned a lot about WordPress this past couple of years with my blog, and we want to try and use the “blog” kind of format with sermons, events, resources, and other content. We hope to use it to engage with people more. That’s our hope… we’ll see…
I’ll have to look into Drupal before I commit, though… Thanks for the tip.
LOVING this picture of you being daddy and catching fish!
It was a great day!
We are with you in your planning and preparation for ministry in the next months and years. I am thankful that you are willing to take the initiative to do what you know needs to be done — and sometimes ask questions later. I support you 100%. I love you and your family — they are important!
