Well, yesterday morning we had our first ever “Parent/Child Dedication” class where we talked through the role of the individual, family, and the church in the spiritual formation of the dedicated child. It was great. We wanted to take some time to emphasize, in a formal class setting, the importance of training up a child in the ways of the Lord and what it takes for the individual, the family and the church community to do this. Dedicating a child is more than just a 3 minute ceremony in a church service.
We will most likely refine this over the years as we do this (because I just printed the notes below for each class participant and we just walked through and discussed it together), but here are the materials:
