“As a saint of God, my attitude toward sorrow and difficulty should not be to ask that they be prevented, but to ask that God protect me so that I may remain what He created me to be, in spite of all my fires of sorrow.”

As humans who live in a world that we cannot control, we wonder why bad things happen and what we could have done to prevent them. This is only natural to think and feel.

The reality, however, is…

…that the things in this world are beyond our control (control is only an illusion), and what makes us holy isn’t what we should or shouldn’t have done to prevent, rather, HOW we should respond and WHO we should trust is paramount.

It’s not what happens to you in life, it’s how you respond and who you trust in this life that makes you a person of surrender and faith.

O Lord, I don’t pray for sorrow, but when it does come (and come it will), I pray that I respond in faith and surrender.
