Cool visual arrangement of the books of the Bible… kind of like a biblical periodic table :)!

Do you sometimes wonder if teenagers argue just because they want to argue? …for the mere pleasure of watching you, their wonderful parent, get suckered in and engaged in a meaningless argument for the purpose of… well… the argument?!

It’s tough and exhausting to stay up on all the “cool” fads in Youth Culture. I’m so glad that I’ve been in Youth Ministry long enough to know that “being cool” isn’t found in how you dress, or one’s ability to quote and sing a current Pop music song, rather “being cool” is found in how relationship with the Lord can transcend humanity’s various changing sub-cultures.
As the clip below illustrates: Jesus doesn’t belong in a box of all your past “cool” stuff, but rather in our hearts no matter what culture you are a part of…
my apologies…

Hayward Wesleyan Church is currently hosting the Alpha Course so there are quite a few posters and promotional material around our facility.
The other day a student asked me a funny question. She pointed to the picture on the Alpha poster and asked: “Why is there a dirty guy on that poster?”
In the span of 3 seconds, I laughed, wanted to inform, paused, thought about the use of the “dirty guy” through the lens of a child, laughed again, then tried to explain who Bear Grylls is and why he’s promoting Alpha.
About 10 seconds into my explanation, this student shrugged her shoulders, obviously dissatisfied with my explanation and walked away. Aww… good times!
Sari has a tough time sleeping at night. She’s like her Dad… a night owl… doesn’t like going to bed until your body completely shuts down and gives up.
Anyway, the other night I was laying next to Sari while she was attempting to “sleep.” I was trying to give her some good ideas of things to do while laying there staring at the ceiling. I told her she could talk with God…
I said: “You could ask God what heaven is like?”
Sari quips back to me: “Dad. I already know what space looks like!”
Duh, Dad!!
Jesus was betrayed, arrested, tried, beaten, flogged, tortured, and crucified…
…and yet, God demonstrated his love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
The cross is the Gospel. The cross is our example of how to live and suffer as God’s people, Christians, in our world today. We “gospel”, die everyday. Take up your cross and follow HIM. Very simple, yet very complex.
But first you have to answer the question: “Do you believe?”

Jesus took Peter, James and John into the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus knew what was coming and needed to talk with God.

On the night that Jesus was betrayed he took the bread and broke it and said “This is my body broken for you, do this in remembrance of me.” And in the same way he took the cup and said: “This cup is my blood shed for the forgiveness of sins, do this often, in remembrance of me.”
The first communion. The last supper with his disciples. The Eucharist. A Christian ordinance that has been practiced for almost 2,000 years. A way to remember Jesus’ sacrifice.
And then Jesus showed his disciples the full extent of his love. He took off his outer garment and with it he began to wash the feet of his disciples. Jesus then implored his disciples to follow his example to love and serve one another.

Early in the morning, exactly 5 years ago, Sari graced us with her presence into this world. And nothing has been the same since!
Happy Birthday to my first and oldest daughter! May you continue to grow in relationship with the Lord and may the Holy Spirit continue to shape your character as you seek God with all your heart.
Mom and I love you lots!!
I’m a little late with this… we’re already over a month into 2012. But I’ve recently been learning how better to use Twitter and leverage it to connect and resource and collaborate with other people.
This video describes the impact Twitter has in not only reporting the news, but connecting people together over some really important matters.
